How do I find the right product packaging?
How do I find the right product packaging?
As a founder, you are about to launch your products and are wondering which packaging is right for your product? We will help you and answer the five most important questions about product packaging for founders and start-ups.
How do I choose the right packaging for my product?
The primary task of product packaging is to protect your product (and often the associated taste and aroma) from external influences. In order to find the optimal solution, you should therefore check the necessary protective properties of your product in the first step.
Example: Anyone who stuffs coffee needs a valve for high levels of aroma oxygen protection and degassing. On the other hand, when selling photosensitive products such as CBD products, a package with high UV protection is important. A transparent stand-up pouch-like “Transparent Toni” is, of course, not very suitable here.
How do I get sustainable packaging? What should I be careful about?
The material from which a product packaging is made is the essential factor for sustainability. It is important to use a raw material that the industry can fully recycle, i.e. that is recyclable. This is the only way to pollute the environment as little as possible.
Unfortunately, the fact is a large part of the packaging materials on the market are not recyclable. As a result, they end up in landfills or incineration plants, which is harmful to the environment. Composite packages, such as paper-plastic mixtures and plastic layer combinations, cannot be recycled because waste management cannot separate these materials from each other.
In contrast, for example, our packaging is made of monoplastic that can be recycled by “Metalized Martha” or “Transparent Toni”.
As a founder, if you need sustainable packaging, pay special attention to the materials you use. Various certificates, such as the “Made for Recycling” sticker, will help you make sustainable choices.
What benefits does digital printing bring as a founder?
Your product should set the right purchase incentives on the shelf or online. You can do this with the help of a good packaging design. Pouches that rely on the digital printing process are an optimal packaging solution especially for start-ups and young founders.
Because this combines flexibility, low costs, and high print quality compared to classic offset printing. Thanks to digital printing, high-quality packaging that is in no way inferior to the “big ones” in retail can be produced even with a tight budget. Instead of sticking stickers on a monotonous package, it shines with a full-surface, high-quality stand-up pouch with vibrant colors and elaborate design. They cut great numbers not only in retail but also online at Instagram & Co.
Thanks to our digital printing, your creative ideas are almost unlimited. For example, if you want your customers to see your product directly, our “Transparent Toni” is an interesting alternative. The display window can be integrated into the design as needed. If the sustainability aspect plays a big role for you and your first impression needs to emphasize this, you can think of a paper package called “Natural Nil”.
Another advantage of digital printing is that you can order many different layouts in small numbers at once. It also eliminates the complex production of print plates. This means that you can order different layouts of product packages from 500 pieces and have the advantage of lower bulk prices. We recommend that you print accurately and flexibly as needed, rather than binding capital to an unnecessarily large number of package units.

How can I fill the product and seal the package?
As a founder, the bag offers the advantage of being self-filling at a low cost. Our pack hero is already sealed at the bottom and open at the top. Therefore, you can start filling immediately. Thanks to the wide base and large opening, this is also very easy without a machine. It is recommended to use a measuring spoon or measuring spoon to prevent the bag from filling up. Then stop filling at 75-80%.
It is usually enough to draw a zipline to close. Heat sealing is recommended to achieve a longer shelf life of the product and prevention of unauthorised opening. In this way, it reassures potential customers and encourages them to buy products. If you are just starting your business, manual sealing is usually sufficient, and you do not need to buy expensive equipment. More on this in the article on filling and sealing stand-up pouches.
What legal framework do I have to comply with for my product packaging?
When you bring a product onto the market, there are a lot of regulations that have to be met. In connection with the packaging, these are, for example, mandatory information under food law, but also disposal regulations; the keyword here is the Packaging Act.
Depending on what you are selling, the following information should always be on your packaging:
- Net filling quantity
- Quantities
- Place of origin of the product
- Barcodes
- Production number
- Company name and address
- health-related information (e.g. allergens)
- Expiration date
- Ingredients and nutritional value in food
The legal framework, of course, differs depending on the product. You can find additional information on this in our article “Packaging design”, or you can contact us, your Packiro packaging experts. Of course, we will be happy to help you with any questions regarding designing and selecting the right packaging materials.
